Ingredients:

2 cups self-rising flour (Martha White or White Lily for best results)

1/4 cup lard or shortening (about egg-sized and very cold)

1 cup very cold buttermilk (may need to adjust amount)

3 tablespoon melted shortening or butter

Directions:

Step 1: Prepare the oven and preheat to 450 degrees F.

Step 2: Apply a generous amount of cooking spray in a large cast-iron skillet or biscuit pan.

Step 3: In a large bowl, add the flour and shortening.

Step 4: Create a small well in the middle and add in the buttermilk. Mix using your hands or with a fork until well combined and light.

Step 5: Sprinkle flour on a flat surface and place the dough on it. Knead a couple of times until slightly flatten into 1/2-inch thick.

Step 6: Cut the dough into small biscuits using a biscuit cutter.

Step 7: Put the biscuits into the prepared skillet or pan.

Step 8: Top each biscuit with the shortening or butter.

Step 9: Place the biscuits inside the preheated oven and bake for 13 to 15 minutes or until they turn golden brown.

Step 10: Remove from the oven and transfer the biscuits in a sealed container. Allow it to steam inside for about 5 minutes.

Step 11: Brush butter on top of each biscuit.

Step 12: Serve warm and enjoy!

Notes:

These biscuits are best-served with apple butter, jams, honey, jellies, butter, or whichever you prefer.
