Ingredients
- 5 Cups All-purpose flour plus more for dusting.
- 1.5 Cups Warm milk (110-115 degrees)
- 4.5 Teaspoons Yeast (2 packets)
- 1 Stick Butter (1/2 cup); melted
- 2 Eggs
- 1 Teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 Cup Sugar (adjust to your preference) plus more for coating
- Strawberry jam or jelly of your choice
- Oil for frying
Instructions
- Proof yeast: In a small bowl, add milk, stir in yeast and sprinkle some sugar over it. Set aside until it’s foamy.
- In another bowl, add flour, sugar, salt, and stir.
- Add the melted butter, egg, and mix. You can do this process with your standing mixer or hand.
- Add the yeast mixture and combine until it is smooth. Sprinkle some flour if it’s too sticky, I added about one tablespoon.
- Grease a bowl, and add the dough. Cover and place in a warm place to rise (double in size).
- After it has risen, place the dough on a floured surface and punch down. Divide the dough into two and work with one at a time.
- Roll the dough to about 1/4”-1/2” thickness.
- Place parchment on baking sheets sprinkle flour over the baking sheet and set aside.
- Dip a cutter into a flour (to avoid sticking) and cut out the dough.
- Place the cut-out dough on the baking sheet leaving some space apart in between the doughs. Cover and let the dough rises (doubled) again.
- Heat oil in a fryer or dutch, let the oil heat to about 350-375 degrees F. Fry the dough (don’t overcrowd the oil) for about 2 minutes on each side.Be careful when picking the dough up in other not to deflate.
- Drain on the paper towel tray. Squeeze in some jelly into the donut (one at a time) you can use a piping tip and bag.
- Coat the donut with sugar (as much as you want it), let it cool down and enjoy!
