Ingredients

For the Cookie Dough:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature

1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar, sifted

For the Buttercream Frosting:

1 cup powdered (confectioners) sugar

1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

1-2 tablespoons milk

1 teaspoons vanilla OR almond extract

Wilton Christmas red and moss green food coloring gels ( You can get them at their store or online)

Red, green and white sprinkles, for decoration

Instructions

Cookies:

In a medium bowl whisk together flour and salt. Set aside.

Place butter into the bowl of your stand mixer, fitted with the paddle attachment, beat until smooth and light, about 40-60 seconds.

Add in the sugar and beat until smooth.

Gradually add the flour mixture and beat until you get a smooth dough.

Roll the dough between 2 sheets of parchment paper to 1/4 -inch thick. Transfer on the baking sheet and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes or until firm.

Meanwhile preheat your oven to 350 F

Remove the dough from the refrigerator and cut into bite-sized squares.

Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned.

Allow to cool completely before frosting.

Buttercream frosting:

In a large bowl mix together the softened butter, powdered sugar and vanilla extract.

If the frosting seems to be dry, add 1-2 tablespoons milk and mix until combined.

Divide the buttercream frosting into 3 parts.

Tint one with red and another one with green food coloring gels.

Once the cookies are completely cooled, decorate with the buttercream frosting (simply spread some frosting on each cookie with a knife) and sprinkle with Christmas sprinkles.
