CHOCOLATE KAHLUA CAKE WITH STRAWBERRY BUTTERCREAM FROSTING 1

Ingredients:

Cake Ingredients:

3 C flour

3 C Sugar

1 1/2 C special dark chocolate cocoa powder

1 tbsp baking powder

1 1/2 tsp baking soda

1 1/2 tsp kosher salt

4 large eggs

1/2 C sour cream

1 C buttermilk

1 C warm water

1/2 cup Kahlua

1/2 tsp espresso powder

1/2 C canola oil

1 tbsp pure vanilla extract

Strawberry Buttercream Frosting ingredients:

2 C unsalted sweet cream butter, softened

6 C powdered sugar

4 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 C finely diced strawberries

5-7 TBSP heavy whipping cream

Strawberries for topping

1 large piping bag fitted with a star tip

Large ice cream scoop

Chocolate Ganache Ingredients:

1 C semi-sweet chocolate chips

1/2 C heavy whipping cream

1 large squeeze bottle

Directions:

Step 1: Prepare the oven and preheat to 175 degrees C or 350 degrees F.

Step 2: Apply cooking spray in three 9-inch cake pans.

Step 3: In a small mixing bowl, add the Kahlua, espresso, and warm water. Whisk until well mixed.

Step 4: In another mixing bowl, add the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Use a standing mixer to beat until well mixed.

Step 5: Add eggs one at a time and beat every addition.

Step 6: Add buttermilk, sour cream, oil, vanilla extract, and espresso. Beat until well combined.

Step 7: Split the batter into the 3 prepared pans.

Step 8: Place the pans inside the oven and bake for 25 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean after inserting it in the middle of the batter.

Step 9: Remove from the oven and let it sit at room temperature to cool for at least 20 minutes.

To Make the Frosting:

Step 1: Beat the butter, powdered sugar, vanilla, heavy whipped cream, and strawberries until well mixed.

Step 2: Spoon about 1 cup of the frosting into a piping bag.

To Prepare the Cake:

Step 1: Place a layer of the cake on a cake board.

Step 2: Add 5 scoops of the frosting on top of the cake and spread it evenly.

Step 3: Top with another layer of the cake and spread the rest of the frosting on top.

To Make the Chocolate Ganache:

Step 1: Place a small pot on the stove and heavy cream and turn the heat to medium.

Step 2: Melt the chocolate chips and add them to the pot. Whisk until well combined.

Step 3: Transfer the Ganache into a squeeze bottle and drop dollops of it on top of the cake.

Step 4: Place strawberries on top of the Ganache.

Step 5: Slice, serve, and enjoy!
