SLOW COOKER HAM AND SCALLOPED POTATOES

I never had such a meal that gave me the satisfaction that I’ve felt when I had this dish! Oh, man, it’s the best! If you have a lot of time to spare before lunch or dinner, this dish will suit you perfectly! I call it perfect because it is! Once you get a bite of the creamy and soft texture of all the ingredients, you will have a new perspective on life! Maybe a little exaggerated, but give it a try, and you’ll see. Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup of water
  • ½ teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 5 medium (2-1/4″ to 3″ dia, raw)s potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • salt and ground black pepper to taste
  • 2 cups of milk
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups cubed smoked ham

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, add cream of tartar and water. Whisk until well mixed.

Step 2: Add the potatoes and stir until well coated.

Step 3: Remove the potatoes from the salted water.

Step 4: Place the potatoes and onions into a slow cooker and arrange them on the bottom.

Step 5: Sprinkle salt and pepper to taste.

Step 6: Place a saucepan on the stove and turn the heat to medium.

Step 7: Add the milk and flour right away and stir for 5 minutes until it starts to boil, then season with salt and pepper.

Step 8: Remove the saucepan from the heat.

Step 9: Spoon half of the gravy on top of the potatoes and onions.

Step 10: Top it with ham and cheddar cheese.

Step 11: Spread the other half of the gravy over the ham and cheese.

Step 12: Cover and cook on low heat for 9 to 10 hours or 4 1/2 to 5 hours over high heat.

Step 13: Spoon into a serving bowl.

Step 14: Serve and enjoy!
