CHEF JOHN’S HOT SLOPPY JOE DIP

The perfect dip for pretty much anything! Whenever I host a party, I always make this delicious dip. I just leave it on the table and my guests could not get enough of it! Aside from the flavours, it is also very easy to make. Just follow all these steps and you are in for a treat. Enjoy!

INGREDIENTS

  • 2 pounds extra-lean ground beef
  • 2 green bell peppers, diced
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt, or to taste
  • 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • cayenne pepper, to taste
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese, divided

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1: In a heavy pot, add the ground beef, onion, garlic, bell pepper, flour, cayenne pepper, brown sugar, salt, and pepper.

Step 2: Place the pot on the stove and turn the heat to medium-high.

Step 3: Cook for 15 minutes or until the liquid has evaporated the colour turns brown.

Step 4: Add the ketchup, chicken broth, Worcestershire sauce, and mustard. Stir until well mixed.

Step 5: Simmer over medium heat for 45 minutes or until the texture of the sauce becomes thick.

Step 6: Place the oven rack 6 inches away from the source of heat and preheat to the broiler.

Step 7: Pour the mixture into an oven-proof saucepan.

Step 8: Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese on top and use a fork to poke the cheese down.

Step 9: Sprinkle the rest of the cheese on top.

Step 10: Place on the broiler and broil for 5 minutes until bubbly and brown.

Step 11: Remove and let it sit at room temperature to cool.

Step 12: Serve and enjoy!

NOTES

You can use 2 cups of broth instead of 2 cups of water. You can also bake it at 220 degrees C or 425 degrees F. You can also cook this on the stove over low heat.
