BREAKFAST DOGS

People who use online dog training often wonder what breakfast for dogs should look like.

Should it be the same as the evening meal?

There are many answers, but studies have shown that it is healthier for dogs to eat two meals instead of one large meal.

I like to vary the food for my dogs and breakfast is usually a meal that I share with my dogs, meaning we eat at the same time and essentially the same thing. I like to feed my dogs human quality food, i.e. I don’t use commercial dog food.

How to feed a dog for breakfast
Breakfast is a time of “breaking the fast”, meaning that we must give ourselves and our dogs something nutritious.

Some people do not agree with giving dogs cereal, but there is no harm in giving them cereal if they are not intolerant to it. In fact, cereal can provide dogs with much-needed carbohydrates and nutrients. If dogs are intolerant to cereal, it’s obvious that it should be removed from their diet. Be aware that some grains contain gluten and gluten may be the cause, but not necessarily the carbohydrate. You will see dogs that are intolerant to carbohydrates through allergic reactions such as increased itching.

To those who say that dogs do not receive a “balanced diet” in the wild, I reply: “Dogs in the wild also do not receive shelter, medical care or training in the wild, and these dogs do not live as long as the pets they are cared for”. SIMPLE!

My dogs benefit from the nutritious and balanced meals I give them and breakfast is a big part of that. Here is a recipe I use for my German Shepherd -Maya and my Belgian Malinois – Goofy dog, both weighing about 60 pounds and very active.

3/4 cup oat flakes (cooked)
1/4 cup frozen organic blueberries
2 organic eggs (hard-boiled)
1 tablespoon of cold-pressed organic coconut oil
1 tablespoon of Greek yogurt
1/2 teaspoon calcium powder
1/2 teaspoon of Manuka Honey
1 multivitamin
*I sometimes add Spirulina for breakfast, but almost always for dinner.
*Add frozen blueberries to hot oatmeal to cool it down. Always make sure you don’t give your dog food that is too hot, lukewarm is best.

*Boil eggs in advance so they are not too hot.

*Manuka honey has many health benefits that cannot be obtained with conventional honey. However, Manuka honey is more expensive.
